Hatfield at the Spar Women’s Challenge: A Community on a Mission

Every year, thousands of women show up and cross the finish line at the Spar Women’s Challenge in Tshwane. And for the past few years, our Hatfield community has been right there – not just as participants, but as a church on a mission.

This year, we’re back. And we want you with us.

More Than a Race

The Spar Women’s Challenge is one of South Africa’s most-loved running events, and it’s become something meaningful for our church community too. What began as a prayer initiative has grown into a wide-reaching outreach effort – one that now includes our youth, young adults, and men. We’re showing up as a Hatfield family of churches, with hands and hearts ready to serve.

How to Get Involved

There are several ways to be part of this, from well before race day right through to the finish line.

Lace Up and Run: All those already registered to walk or run on 1 August, remember there’s nothing quite like crossing that finish line knowing your church family is cheering – and praying – you on.

Prayer Walk on Saturday, 13 June: Hatfield Women, we’re gathering on our church grounds at 07:00 for a prayer walk in preparation for race day. This is a beautiful way to cover the event and the people who’ll be there in prayer before it all begins. No special preparation needed – just come ready to pray.

Pack Goodie Bags: Each year, 17 000 goodie bags are packed for race participants, and we need willing hands to help. Packing takes place at Irene Homes in Centurion, from 08:30 to 13:00. Sign up here >>

Medal Hanging: On Thursday, 30 July, from 09:00, volunteers are needed at SuperSport Park to hang medals on the stands ahead of race day – a practical, behind-the-scenes way to serve.

On Race Day: Saturday, 1 August, volunteers are needed from 10:00 to 17:00 to hand out goodie bags to finishers as they cross the line. This is a wonderfully personal point of contact – and we especially encourage the men of Hatfield to get involved here. We need the muscle! 💪

Merchandise Sale: On Sunday, 14 June, after the morning service, we’re offering merchandise for sale to support this OUT-focused initiative. Grab yours and wear it with pride on race day!

A Mission Worth Showing Up For

The Spar Women’s Challenge is more than a running event – it’s our opportunity to reach our city’s people with the love of God, in a public space, in a practical and prayerful way. Every goodie bag packed, every medal hung, every prayer prayed is part of something bigger.

Come be part of it! For more information or to put up your hand for any of these opportunities, contact Pastor June at jsnayers@hatfield.co.za today.

Can’t be there in person? Join the WhatsApp prayer group and pray along from wherever you are beforehand and on the day. Contact Carina at hello@hatfield.co.za to be added to the group.
