All of us are working everyday of our lives, regardless of how we are qualified and whether we generate an income or not. You may be a high flying executive or a stay at home mom, but there is one thing that is real for all of us, and that is we are all at work in one form or another.
Reporting to a boss and seeing others take credit for your ideas, managing other people to ensure that targets are met, or picking up Lego pieces and cleaning the playroom again… Frustration is real and there are times when we may feel despondent, unappreciated and even unseen.
When Paul wrote the letter to the Colossians, he was addressing a church that was made up of many different people including slaves. He encourages all in Colossians 3:23 -24 (ESV)
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that irrespective of what we do to fill our day with ‘work’, everything we do is for the Lord. We don’t need to be in full-time ministry to ensure that wherever we may be, we are in the service of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If we start each day and decide that “Today will be a great day, because all that I will do today, I will do as for the Lord” then we will be able to deal with any frustrations that may come our way, because we are sure of the eternal inheritance that is awaiting us.
