Wisdom features a great deal in the Bible. The books of Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Job have many scriptures about the benefits of having wisdom in your life. These Old Testament books deal with many different human struggles and experiences.
In Proverbs 8, wisdom is personified. When reading this chapter, we may be reminded of Jesus. In the New Testament' John opens his gospel with, ‘In the beginning’. These are also the opening words of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. In doing this, John was making it clear that he was speaking about the same event (creation). John then goes on to show that the Living Word (Jesus) gave life and light from Himself to the work of creation (John 1:1-5).
Our promise this week comes from Proverbs 9:10.
'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.'
This is such valuable advice for us to heed. Let us honour God and take time to hear His voice on a daily basis, and in so doing live our lives wisely and according to His will. May all our decisions be ‘God ideas’ and not just 'good ideas'.
