When we read about Stephen in Acts 6 and 7, we see a man who was 'full of faith and the Holy Spirit' (Acts 6:5, NKJV). Stephen delivered a powerful sermon to the Jewish leaders. The leaders were angered to such an extent that they dragged Stephen out of the city to stone him. At this time, God allowed Stephen to see into heaven. Then, this young man does the unthinkable; he asks that God not 'charge them with this sin' (Acts 7:60, NKJV). What a reflection of our Lord Jesus Christ Stephen was!
Saul, who later became the apostle Paul, and was instrumental in spreading the Gospel of Jesus, was in the crowd that witnessed the execution of Stephen. Stephen had no idea of what God would choose to do with him, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, he remained firm and steadfast in his faith.
Our promise comes from Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV).
'Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.'
What a joy to know that regardless of where we are in life, or what we may be going through, God is with us and He has promised to never leave us or forsake us.
